Patients & Visitors

The Schmerzklinik Basel lives and cultivates a family atmosphere of trust and security, because a good recovery begins in a good environment.

Of course, we are also pleased to welcome you as a guest of our patients and will do everything to make you feel at home.

On this page you will find all the important information about your stay.

Your stay

Your attending doctor or a referring clinic will register you for your stay at the clinic. Together with you, the date of admission and the dates for the medical examinations and treatments will be fixed. All further information about your stay at the Schmerzklinik Basel will then be sent to you by post.

Admission

For your admission to the clinic, please come to our main reception at the agreed time. After registration, you will be personally escorted to your room. There, the facilities and the daily routine will be explained to you and your questions answered. You can express special wishes or concerns at any time. We will be happy to fulfil them to the best of our ability.

Discharge

The date of exit is determined in consultation with the ward physician in a personal meeting. Our nursing staff will be happy to answer your questions about further care, medication, etc.

During the stay

Managing Doctor
At the Schmerzklinik Basel, specialists from various fields look after the patients. However, each individual patient can rely on one medical contact person: his or her Managing Doctor. You will get to know him during your first consultation. They will accompany you during your outpatient, day-care or inpatient treatment.
In addition, your Managing Doctor is responsible for the planning and coordination of all examinations and treatments, including internal and external consultations, interventions, tests, inpatient treatments, etc. The doctors consulted by them are also responsible for the planning and coordination of the entire treatment. The doctors consulted by them are obliged to report to them accordingly in writing.

Follow-up care

You should discuss any follow-up care with your doctor at an early stage.

Inpatient stay

Chronic pain affects everyday life - in addition to physical complaints, it can also lead to psychological and social problems. At the Schmerzklinik Basel, we want to support our patients and free them from the many limitations. This often requires intensive inpatient therapy with the involvement of specialist doctors and therapists. Patients benefit from a coordinated programme of physical and psychological therapies.

Contents of inpatient multimodal pain therapy

Depending on the individual needs of the patient, there are various therapy options, for example:

  • Relaxation techniques
  • Physiotherapy
  • Art therapy
  • Yoga
  • Workshop on natural healing methods
  • Talking therapies with psychologists / psychiatrists
  • Nutritional counselling

Addressed are chronic pain patients with

  • a clearly recognisable or imminent impairment of the quality of life and/or ability to work
  • Lack of success of a previous unimodal pain therapy, a pain-related surgical intervention or a withdrawal treatment
  • Existing drug dependence or a concomitant mental illness that causes pain.
